Stephen Doecke comes from a business background, growing up in private enterprise in Australia with various family interests in Tourism, Business, Commercial and Rural Properties. Having established his own Earth Moving business at 26, he eventually held a senior role for a Top 100 Company in South Australia in the same industry. Through his achievements, he was offered a role as an underwriter for a leading insurance company, eventually being responsible for Northern Queensland before being asked to move to New Zealand.

Since living in New Zealand, he has had held senior roles in insurance and business development for major insurance brokering firms in Christchurch and Marlborough.

Chris Woods

Associate Professor, Department of Management, and International Business, The University of Auckland Business School Director, Coal Spud Group Life Fellow, Clare Hall, Cambridge, UK. Kiwi born and bred, Chris’s interest in entrepreneurship and the small to medium business sector was sparked after working in Malawi as a small business advisor. Instead of catching malaria she caught the entrepreneur bug, becoming ‘hooked’ on the passion and energy that entrepreneurs bring to what they do.

She currently teaches Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Maori Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Auckland. In 2003, Chris was instrumental, with the PostGraduate Students Association, in establishing Spark* entrepreneurship challenge. She has been involved with The Icehouse business growth programmes since their inception in 2001. Her consultancy work is with SMEs and Family Businesses in strategy development, learning and business growth.

Sarah Ramsay

Sarah Ramsay, CEO of United Machinists.

Sarah's expertise is in developing commercial growth strategies. Which is overlaid with a passion for operations efficiency and performance management - processes ingrained after an early career in investment management, running her own marketing agency for 9 years, being a professional governor of several NFPs, investor in numerous startups and the co-owner of a CNC manufacturing facility.

You can’t survive off software, ‘physical things’ are still going to exist in the future – they’re just going to get cooler and more sophisticated. That’s why her husband and herself purchased his family business United Machinists in 2016. They get to help make components for NZ’s leading high tech high value exporters – like ShotOver Camera Systems, TASKA Prosthetics and Scott Waterjet.

Startups do change the world and changing the world from right Dunedin is a pretty cool thing to be part of. That’s why she loves investing her time and oftentimes funds into startups as an angel investor and as Chair of Startup Dunedin.

Most importantly, she's got a toddler, Finlay. Watching him rapidly grow into a great human is her biggest achievement to date!

These span from multi-award-winning online retail stores in the grocery, pet, pharmacy, toy and baby categories; through to a specialist ‘Influencer’ media company and a healthcare logistics business.

Andy Hamilton is a Director, Advisor and investor in Kiwi companies. Loves helping people to find their path to realising potential.

Andy was CEO of The Icehouse for 18 years and now Director of Icehouse Ventures the investment arm of Icehouse and leading his own consulting and investing activities.

Prior to joining the Icehouse, he was CEO and Director of Inventure, Fletcher Building’s venture capital arm that he established in 1998. He was also a member of the Advisory Board of Unitec’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Chair of the Unitec Accelerator from 1999 to 2001.

Way back when - he began as a commercial lawyer for 3 years at Russell McVeagh one of NZ's leading firms, after graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Commerce, LLB Honours. Following Russell McVeagh he was with a publicly listed NZ company, Skellerup Group for 4 years in various roles, including Executive Assistant to the Managing Director – Skellerup Group, Sales and Marketing Manager - Masport, and Retail Manager of a Masport Retail Franchise.
